It has been a while since I last wrote a post but hopefully the wait was worth it. Here we go.

In today’s post, I step into the AI sphere, It is how to use Generative AI for your career growth.

What is Generative AI ?

If you have not been living under the rock, you probably heard about ChatGpt and OpenAI.

Generative artificial intelligence also generative AI or GenAI is artificial intelligence capable of generating text, images, or other media, using generative models. These models learn the patterns and structure of their input training data and then generate new data that has similar characteristics.

Treat it as an extremely smart personal assistant with good public domain knowledge and a strong learning proficiency with ability to learn things very fast. you would then ask - Why use it ?

Importance of Using AI

In today's fast-paced and highly competitive job market, staying ahead of the curve is essential.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a game-changer, revolutionising various aspects of the professional world.

More than anything, it can enhance your Efficiency hugely - Who does not like an Intelligent personal assistant who can help and guide you?

AI can automate repetitive and time-consuming tasks, allowing professionals to focus on more strategic, creative, and value-added activities. This boosts efficiency and productivity in the workplace

Case in point - I generated 90% of this section and wrote the remaining 10% reflecting my personality.

ChatGPT is a powerful AI model developed by OpenAI that excels in understanding and generating human-like text.

It has been trained with huge data sets of public domain information, which equips it with a lot of data. Data, that can help you answer stuff you are not aware.

Simply, it is Public Domain Data + whatever input you give.

Unless you don’t share your private information and you don’t mess with the model in an unethical way, there is nothing to be scared of.

How can it help me ?

Let’s now see how it can help.

It facilitates interactive and dynamic conversations - like a smart coach and consultant, who won't charge you a penny.

Its capabilities and applications include

• access a wide range of knowledge and information

• simulate scenarios - i.e: Interviews

• improve artefacts - resumes

• provide personalised advice

How to setup ChatGpt

ChatGpt is free to use - the GPT3.5 model is free, while the more advanced GPT4.0 goes with monthly subscription fee.

Just follow the below 3 steps

• open https://chatgpt.org

• login using any of your email providers (gmail, apple etc..)

• start chatting

Let’s now look at the applications.

1. Write Effective Documentation

If you are a student, you have gone through the painful process of getting your academic documentation ready - like Statement of Purpose etc…

ChatGpt can ease this for you, here is an example prompt

“Generate a Statement of Purpose for me, I am a Software Engineer with 5 years of work experience and aspiring to apply for a Masters of Business Degree at Oxford University.“

It generated an awesome SOP with this limited information.

You can improve this prompt further by adding more information in the prompt - ie: your achievements and motivation. This makes the output more precise.

You can also go through a number of iterations by asking it to improve it further by adding more context information.

If you are a job seeker, you can slightly alter this and generate a cover letter for your next job.

A strong advice would be to use this generated output only as a base and further improve it by adding your personality and motivation.

Remember to use the output as a base and treat AI as a smart assistant. Don’t use the output as it is.
